It is a dental treatment to strengthen the surface of teeth by remineralization. When applied to the teeth, fluoride gets absorbed by the hydroxyapatite in the outer enamel to form fluorapatite which is harder and more resistant to bacteria.

The absorbed fluoride also attracts other minerals (such as calcium) to the area, thus helping remineralization (reformation of tooth mineral) will occur.  Fluoride also disrupts the bacteria’s ability to metabolize sugars. And the less sugar that the bacteria can consume, the less acidic tooth-demineralizing waste products they will produce.

Periodic application of fluoride varnish can prevent, slows down, or arrest dental decay up to an extent. It also reduces teeth sensitivity. Both children and adults are benefited from this treatment.

After cleaning the teeth, your dentist will coat a thin layer of varnish using a small brush on all surfaces of your teeth. It will take only 2-3 minutes. Once it is applied, the fluoride varnish sets quickly with contact with the saliva. Your dentist will provide you with post-treatment guidelines and any specific instructions to follow.

Visit your dentist for a fluoride treatment every 3-6 months. It will help to maintain healthy and stronger teeth.
